You stepped cautiously into the dark house, looking around and wondering what in the world was happening. As you find your way around the house with your heart pounding in your chest, you saw a small light flickering in the distance. It was coming closer, and closer, and closer... You tried to make out the dark figure who was holding the single light of the house but failed miserably. You saw a mischievous grin formed above the dim light and gasped in horror at those ghastly shadows the light cast on the jaw. "Who are you and what do you want from me?!!" The lights came on and you saw millions of happy face of loved ones smiling at you happily. The smallest light which was once a creepy thing was just a candle on a mouth-watering cake with the words : HAPPY BIRTHDAY.
Okay, that certainly did not happen.
It was my beloved Gong Gong's 80th birthday and we wanted to make it really special for him. I mean, come on! HIS 80TH BIRTHDAY! How many people do you think can even reach that age! So, we planned to have a very expensive and exquisite dinner somewhere in Sunway Pyramid but got screwed up because my dad had a call. Something happened to his patient and he had to go back to the hospital. Drats! Plus, it was raining heavily outside and my Gong Gong's house was flooded - the water level reached his ankles - and had to clean up for the mess. I think God was testing our patience.
We had to cancel our plans because of those problems. Sad, right? ='( At last, we decided to go to a Japanese restaurant since my Gong Gong loves Japanese food and Sabi-Wasabi was the best place we could go. It wasn't all that bad, I'd say. The place was packed with hungry people but the strangest thing is, nobody booked the private room. We took it without further consideration. It really was God's plan after all! Since it was my Gong Gong's birthday, we each decided to pray before the food came, starting with my dad. I really thank God that my Gong Gong accepted Christ and once again, his name is back in The Book of Life. =) He even prays a million times better than me!
We devoured our food - not just because they're good, but we were so hungry - and chatted a while. My dad spoiled everything by asking bro and I, "You guys didn't make cards or anything for Gong Gong?" We went bright red and shook our heads shamefully. I felt so bad! Gong Gong always remembers our birthdays and gives us cute birthday cards! I have all fourteen cards with me - I'm waiting for my fifteenth one. ;) While I was busy finishing my gigantic bowl of Soba (it was very filling, trust me), dad and bro started playing chess on his iPhone. What a way to spend Gong Gong's birthday. ==
Later, we sang birthday songs on our way home. I wouldn't say it's the best birthday we could give to my Gong Gong but I hope he enjoyed it just as much. His birthday is actually on the 23rd of March, so I wish we can celebrate his birthday again on the real day. With candles and birthday cakes and presents and all. OH, SHOOT. It suddenly struck me - I've never given Gong Gong anything in my entire fifteen years of life, not even a single card.
Oh. My. Gosh.
I'm so gonna make an unforgettable birthday card for him. Period.
I really love you, Gong Gong.
Just want you to know that,
God loves you, too. =]
