Do you believe in magic?Ahhh, finally! Some quality time with myself! I felt around for my new yearbook in my schoolbag. The cover felt like freshly printed, crisp banknotes and was designed with a boat, sailing courageously in the deep, blue, raging ocean. In other words, smooth-sailing through all obstacles to success. I snuggled into my duvet and started reading Yvonne's Mandarin essay. It was very emo but tres fantastica. Recollections On A Blue Sunday wasn't that bad either, and Dreams made me feel quite feverish. I had successfully made my way through all the English poems and stopped myself before reaching the land of Malay essays. Ugh, I can't believe students in our school will even bother to write any Malay words, let alone post them into the yearbook. Ridiculous.
After scanning every single student in my entire form, I flipped through my yearbook aimlessly. As I searched for my seniors who got 8A's for the PMR examination in 2008, my eyes fell on a familiar face. In a flash, his name popped into my head. I gazed at the words below his picture. Oh, mother goose! I was right about his name (shoot, I even got the surname right)! I looked at his smiling face for a moment. His features didn't change much but his IQ did! I felt a rush of memories flowing into my mind.
I was only seven but I'd jumped a grade in an English tuition centre. I was the youngest in Level 2 and had no friends at all. (Well, except for a girl who was ten at that time and always gave me tidbits and trinklets.) His young face was still fresh in my mind as I always turned back and glanced at his answers (which were mostly wrong). He was normally seated behind me. Whenever the teacher asked us a question, he would raise up his hand and answer it confidently. But that nasty old pig will burst his fragile bubble and smirk at him 'cause he always got them wrong. I didn't know him too well and didn't talk to him either, though. I thought he was a year older than me but no, he was ahead of me by two years.
I stared at him for a while, waiting for this piece of news to sink in. I didn't expect to see him in my yearbook. And certainly, I didn't know he was so smart. 8A's for PMR? Imagine that! I'd truly underestimated him. His features were very refined. Chiseled jaw, deep-set eyes, smooth face...? LOL. Still in good condition. *nods head knowingly* Maybe it was just pure luck he got 8A's. Lemme check what class he'd entered. I'm sure he wasn't one of the top Science classes, hah!
I'd scrutinised every nook and cranny. I'd searched high and low. But oh, my freakin' goth. He's in one of the extremely perfect classes. First glance and he was staring back at me. I can't believe it! He's that smart?!! My hands were cold. A shiver went up my spine.
I wasn't convinced that he's such a smartypants, so I took out my old yearbook. Flip, flip, flip. Unfortunately (or fortunately, either ways), I found him in one of the fabulous classes last year. Oh, well. I guess he's a real smart-ass. My, look at how tall he'd grown!
I'm so glad I've found my long, lost friend (does that count?). I need time to register that he's in the same school as me, though. I was kinda freaked out and couldn't sleep for quite some time. Anyway, he's smart. He's good-looking. He's tall. There should be one more thing he should possess, otherwise he'd be outta my list.
I hope he's straight.
